You're In Business

Terraxy is a scientifically validated spin-off from KAUST addressing critical desert agriculture challenges through innovative soil technologies (SandX and CarboSoil). The project possesses exceptional Real-World Utility and Technical Innovation, verified by external research and pilot projects with Saudi government entities (NCVC). However, the Proof of Usefulness score is constrained by the project's early 'Minimal Traction' stage (pilot vs. mass market) and significant quality issues in the submission data (e.g., claiming 'most people have used my product' and reach is 'everyone'), which necessitated penalties in Response Quality and Audience Reach.

Description
Terraxy is a KAUST startup pivoting years of rigorous research on nature-inspired approaches to desert agriculture. Our sustainable technologies are unlocking the potential of deserts for food production, landscaping, greening, and afforestation. Understandably, the two crucial challenges impeding plant growth in a hot & dry desert ecosystem, e.g., the Middle East and beyond, are the inefficient use of water and the lack of nutrients in the poor sandy soils. Terraxy's SandX and CarboSoil technologies enhance irrigation efficiency and soil fertility for the long term, respectively. This boosts the plant survivability and growth under extremely hot and dry conditions. CarboSoil curtails organic landfilling, facilitates long-term carbon sequestration, and combats desertification and climate change. SandX and CarboSoil have been extensively tested on a variety of crops and native trees spanning multiple years. Terraxy's pilot sites have been deployed at multiple sites in Saudi Arabia. Our materials are purposely developed to be economically viable and environmentally friendly solutions for growing plants in the desert. Our vision and mission are aligned with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, and most especially, the ambitious goals of the Saudi Green Initiative of rehabilitating vast lands and planting billions of trees throughout Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. Terraxy also offers R&D and consulting services for greening/landscaping/afforestation projects, including scoping, planning, soil and water surveys, irrigation technologies, planting trees, monitoring plant growth and carbon sequestration, and conducting life cycle assessments (LCA).
