North West SDE

We provide faster and more secure access to different types of NHS data for research. Our vision is to make a positive health and care impact for people in the North West through better use of their data. By improving access to NHS data, we will enable world-class research to prevent, diagnose, and treat our biggest healthcare challenges. This will improve patient care, support innovation and help us sustain the NHS in the future. Our secure platform provides access to analytical tools and analysts for researchers to work with. The North West Secure Data Environment (SDE) is currently ready to serve researchers in organisations such as: • the NHS and public bodies • academia • the life sciences industry • MedTech and pharmaceutical companies • small to medium-sized enterprises. Over time, we plan to increase the number of datasets available, including those from wider health and care organisations to enable access to a more rounded, linked data picture. The North West SDE is a collaboration between the three integrated care boards in our region – Cheshire and Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire and South Cumbria. Our local insights can help reduce health inequalities and improve treatments and services for everyone. We are part of the NHS Research Secure Data Environment (SDE) Network, which covers the whole of England and means researchers can access data from across more than one SDE through a single application and approval process.
