Gaining Momentum

DeepDiveBio presents an innovative hardware solution (MultiTherm 96) with genuine utility in synthetic biology. However, the submission is severely degraded by wildly unrealistic claims regarding audience reach ('everyone') and traction ('most people have used my product'). Due to unverifiable business metrics and poor submission quality, the score reflects the promising core technology heavily discounted by the lack of credible evidence.

Description
Synthetic biology is rapidly becoming the primary basis for scientific and medical discovery. However, fully harnessing the power of this science is difficult because nature works has evolved to work with a diverse set of variables, many beyond the scope of human understanding. DeepDiveBio develops intelligent instrumentation to capture key performance indicators while automated biological workflows are carried out in high throughput. Using a highly specialized machine learning tool, this data is leveraged to understand how to optimize future performance on the instrument. In 2019, DeepDiveBio released the MultiTherm™ 96 thermal cycling platform. The companies first product, MultiTherm™ gives scientists the ability to independently program the temperature of each well and asynchronously load each sample. This allows up to 96 disparate experiments to take place simultaneously while web-based software gives the ability to control the device and operate it with existing laboratory automation, mobile devices, and laboratory information management (“LIMS”) software to further improve experimental and production outcomes.
