Cognitive Explorations

We are fundamentally curious about human behavior and seek to understand it through empirical study. More explicitly, we perform data-driven original research and provide consulting/advisory services in the following domains: 1) Games User Research - implementation of traditional qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as investigations into novel and emerging approaches; formation, training, and upskilling for User Research departments; experiment and research program design to advance understanding of player behavior in video game contexts 2) Game Design - designed gameplay in both entertainment and non-entertainment (didactic, therapeutic, simulation, research, training) contexts 3) Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Research - non-invasive work focused on the design of adaptive experiences, environments, and products that respond to physiological measurements of internal state 4) Applied Psychology - translations of knowledge about human behavior into actionable insights for product and experience design 5) Data Science and Machine Learning - advanced statistical analysis and predictive modeling on all data relevant to questions of interest 6) General User Research - research on all manner of user experiences in creative technology Our work focuses on these domains independently and their intersections.
